Saving Breezy

Saturday my children became heroes! At least to a beautiful butterfly they have named Breezy (as they have deemed all butterflies!) Trevor and Makenna were playing outside trying real hard not to play in the pool because it was nasty! However, they just couldn't resist "checking on" the water. When they got closer, they found lying atop the itty bitty pool of water a butterfly. They were distraught that a butterfly could die in their pool, they love Breezy too much to have her lose her life in something that belongs to them. So, they decided they would get her out and see what happens. Together they retrieved a bucket and a small plastic rake. They scooped her into the bucket and laid her out on the deck on a plastic lid so she could dry. As they laid her out they saw her move slightly. They were so excited that they had saved her! So, they put her on the picnic bench to let her dry out (but it was shady so it was excruciatingly slow), and when Dad came home I told him about it so he moved her to a sunny rock in the front of the house. He later told the kids that she waited until he came back to check on her before she flew away. We all took this as a sign of her gratitude. Makenna and Trevor had succeeded in saving their little butterfly, Breezy. (Ashley, unfortunately, slept through this search and rescue operation. I'm sure she'll be involved next time!) They are so proud of themselves! It's really too bad Breezy won't come back for a visit, they would like a picture of her. I was to much of a skeptic to take her picture thinking we would just be laying her to rest later that day. Farewell Breezy, you're welcome!
